RELAY FOR LIFE: RAISING FUNDS FOR CANCER RESEARCH

|

A team from the Vancouver, Washington, Feed headquarters office has actively participated in the local Relay for Life event for the past five years. Relay for Life raises money for cancer research, in hopes of finding a cure in this lifetime. Cancer survivors are honored with a luncheon and celebrated as they take the first lap around the track because they are the reason and inspiration for the event. Their courage and determination are uplifting to everyone around them.

Gerrie Gardner, Wilbur-Ellis Feed administrative assistant, has chaired the Survivor Committee for the last four years, orchestrating the luncheon for 200 people, booking a speaker and collecting bingo prizes for the games after lunch. Luminaria bags made by friends and family and lit after dark, are decorated with the names of those still fighting the disease and honoring those who lost their courageous battle.

Teams decorate their campsite with a chosen theme and many have games to play with prizes or items for sale to continue to raise money throughout the event. The Vancouver Feed team used Robin Hood as their theme and placed first in 2018 with Best Campsite decorations!
