WILBUR-ELLIS BRANCH IN MICHIGAN WINS ENVIRONMENTAL RESPECT AWARD

Company recognized for its outstanding environmental stewardship

Walnut Creek, Calif. – August 21, 2013 – Wilbur-Ellis Company’s Agribusiness Division, a recognized leader in crop production technology and the distribution and marketing of plant protection, seed and nutritional products, was awarded the Environmental Respect Regional Award for its facility in Edmore, Mich., in 2013. The Environmental Respect Awards are conducted by Croplife Media Group and are the agricultural industry’s highest recognition for environmental stewardship among U.S. agricultural retailers who serve growers with nutrients, pest control and agronomic information and services for effective crop protection.

Each year, a panel of industry experts gathers to recognize businesses that have demonstrated environmental stewardship, professional excellence and community involvement. Winners are judged based on excellence in site design, in-plant storage and handling procedures, proper application and leadership in both safety and stewardship among customers and employees.

“Wilbur-Ellis Edmore was clearly deserving of a Regional Award this year; the self-audit packet they submitted, and our subsequent visit to the facility, reflected a strong commitment to safety, security and stewardship,” said Paul Schrimpf, group editor of CropLife Media Group. “We were also impressed with the commitment to improved record keeping, agronomic practices, and irrigation management through adoption of technology. The management and staff go to great lengths to reach out to the community through involvement in a wide range of activities that reflect their commitment to Edmore’s people and environment.”

As employee safety and security training are key areas of focus for the Edmore facility, a designated safety committee meets with the team every month to discuss preventative measures for potential hazards and risks. In addition to workplace safety, the outlet invests in numerous community outreach efforts, such as hosting an annual customer appreciation day for customers and their families. The facility also gives back by sponsoring local youth summer baseball and softball programs, the Food Resource Bank and the National FFA.

“Wilbur-Ellis and our employees in Edmore are honored to receive this special recognition as it reflects our dedication to maintaining a sustainable and safe environment for the communities in which we live and work,” said Tim Boals, regional manager for Wilbur-Ellis’ Great Lakes Operations. “We promote our stewardship efforts throughout all aspects of our business by training our employees and making this a top priority in our business.”

In 2012, Wilbur-Ellis received the Environmental Respect State Award in Colorado, Kansas, North Dakota and Washington.
